  • Hey GMCer's! Today we are focusing on English rock guitarist and singer Alvin Lee. He is known mostly as a core member of the band Ten Years After. Alvin took an early interest in music after hearing his parent's collection of jazz and blues records. Guitarists like Chuck Berry and Scotty Moore provided inspiration for him. In my opinion his lead playing is full of energetic blues riffs that combine nicely with the backbone of the band, the bass and drums. I got my inspiration from the song 'Goin Home' a track performed by Ten Years After at the original Woodstock.

This lesson is played at 230bpm in 4/4.

There are backing tracks at 230, 210, 190, 170, 150, & 130 to help you practice. I've also included a loop at normal tempo(230). The majority of this is played using the A pentatonic blues scale, but we are adding chromatic notes in a few areas. Below is a diagram of the A pentatonic blues scale. Below each individual video I have explained the tab and also added more diagrams for the video's that need them. It is noted in text when we are adding chromatic notes.

I hope that you enjoy this lesson,

    Good luck & have fun!
