Three notes per string chromatic picking exercise (100 bpm - 147 bpm)

Play the exercise with strictly alternate picking, 16th notes (four notes per beat).

Mastering this kind of technique means a lot of challenges. The most obvious is: developping clean/controlled speed. In order to this it is exteremely important not to push youreslf to the higher speeds - as this will give you an uncontrolled technique. Instead practice the exercise at a tempo where you feel completely comfortable.

Once you have mastered this (usually takes a couple of years), you will find playing the lick to the metronome is one thing and playing it in an improvisation/solo is a whole other thing. You should therefore, from day one, try to improvise with the lick - even if you feel you are far from your "goal speed".
