Hi everybody!
In this lesson I show you how to use a delay effect to create some interesting riffs. If you want some references listen to "Surrounded" and "Lifting shadows off a dream" of Dream Theater. Also, I suggest you to read David O's lesson.
The idea is to play a note and create a new note three sixteenth after, with delay.
Just look at the example below. The formula used is:
60 (seconds/minute) / 110 (bpm) = ~ 0.545 s (quarter note duration)
0.545 / 4 (sixteenth note duration) * 3 = ~ 0.410 s
So, for this lesson you should use this setting:
delay time: 410 ms.
feedback: one repeat.
volume: same of picked note.
I used the following convention to tab the lesson:
---X--- picked note at X fret.
--(X)-- note at X fret generated by delay effect.
I used the Zoom G2.1u. The pedal on this unit allows me to turn off the delay when I play the last note.
Key: B minor
Time signature: 3/4
Tempo: 110 bpm
Note: if you play over the backing track at 90 bpm, set the delay to 500 ms.
Enjoy!
