  • Hey GMCer’s! Today’s lesson we will be trying to capture the style of a well known player and one of my favorite guitarists, Jimi Hendrix.

My inspiration for this lesson came after hearing an instrumental backing track to Astro Man by Jimi. This was a rare studio take that ran 11:20 long and in my opinion showcases some of his best playing.

There is so much to say about Jimi’s style. The guitar seemed to be a part of his body and he used it to channel what was going through his mind. In this lesson I will use a few riffs that can be heard throughout his playing, but mostly I jammed this lesson out on the fly, improvising like Jimi was famous for doing. I later went back and tabbed it out.

This lesson is played at 150bpm in 4/4.
We're using the D#/Eb minor pentatonic scale and adding a chromatic A note. There are backing tracks at 150, 115, 85, 65 and a 3min loop at 150. I included diagrams of the minor pentatonic scale and one with the chromatic notes in blue.

If you have questions or need help please send me a message. I look forward to your feedback.

    Good luck & have fun!
