Give any scale a major 3rd and a minor 7th, you'll get the dominant version of that scale. Today we'll talk about the Lydian Dominant scale. Because of the nature of its notes, it will best be used over a 7th chord.

Here are the notes of a Lydian dominant scale:

Root-Maj2nd-Maj3rd-Augmented 4th-5th-Maj6th-min7th

Today's lesson will be in the key of A Lydian Dominant.

Make sure you are comfortable with the suggested pattern and the construction of the sale, then memorize the examples and use them over your own creations.
