  • Welcome to the Deftones style Rhythm lesson #2!

    Deftones - a band that has always been on my personal top artist/band list. I love the way they combine powerful riffs with abient sound and "sceary/creapy mood in some of their compositions. Extracted guitar licks are pure rock/metal based. One of specific features of deftones is a use of "conflict" harmonies where often minor third bites with major third or minor 7th with major 7th. One being played by backing instruments and the other one in vocal lines or pad track. So if you ask yourself a question "is thre anything wrong with the harmony"...I answer YES, THERE IS and it supposed to be.

    Gear used (in order of connection chain placement):

    1. Hufschmid Headless guitar with Kent Armstron U.S.A pickups (OTT+Rocker)
    2. Presonus Inspire 1394 firewire audio interface (input gain 40%)
    3. Poulin LeXtac vst plug-in:
    - Channel - blue

    - Gain 70%
    - Pre EQ - brighter
    - Bass 50%
    - Middle 40%
    - Treble 50%
    - Contour 100%
    4. Kefir impulse loader (mix 100%)
    5. Impulse - Ownhammer FMAN412 V30B 57-00 (or other V30 + SM57 related, position "between")
    6. Parametric EQ (Cubase default) - 650 Hz, -6.1 dB Q=0.0
