Hi and welcome to my new lesson. This is the Intermediate version of my Phil Collen Beginner lesson. There's a little bit more to work with here. The rhythm section has more going on and the solo is more challenging.
Philip Kenneth "Phil" Collen (born 8 December 1957) is an English musician. He is the lead guitarist and former rhythm guitarist for the rock band Def Leppard. He joined the band in 1982 following the departure of Pete Willis - Wikipedia
Def Leppard are known for having a very accessible commercial hard rock sound, which developed from their NWOBHM origins. Songs like 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Rocket' are great examples of how they used a bouncy pop style beat with power chords and a layered arrangement to create their polished sound.
Despite the pop leanings of their music, Phil is a great rock guitar player who not only can conjure up a great melody but can also tear it up when needs be. He is known for using Jackson guitars and heavy gauge strings, (D'Addario 0.13 - 0.54 and 0.13 - 0.56 - Wikipedia)
Phil has a very bright tone and picks very hard which gives him his signature sound. He often employs fast alternate picked ascending runs. A good example of this would be the solo in 'Let's Get Rocked'. This lesson has two fast picking runs for you to have fun with!
So, grab that guitar and make it happen!
