  • Greetings from Granada, Spain!

    Welcome to my first lesson at GMC. I have composed this exercise to show you how I use the Slap & Pop technique on the guitar.
    The tricky part here will be to use triplets with the slap technique.

    Music Style:
    Funk Fusion or Pop-Rock

    Tonality & Chords:
    In this example I use the G tonality, with G, F and C chords. G pentatonic minor scale.

    Techniques:
    I use Slap, Pop, Left Hand Tapping, Legato, Strummed Octaves and Muted Strums. I use the Thumb to Slap and Middle finger to pop.
    Why do I use Middle finger to Pop? - Well I play the guitar using hybrid picking which mainly uses middle-ring for fingerpicking and I prefer to use the same fingering when playing the slap technique.

    Sound:
    I used my ENGL Amp to record this lesson: clean sound with EQ and Compressor. I also add a little delay.
    The guitar is a Fender Telecaster Hot Rod 52, using the neck pickup.

    Tuning:
    Standard: E-A-D-G-B-E

    Tempo:
    130 BPM

    Notation:
    S = Slap/Thumb
    P = Popping/Index Finger (I use middle)
    LH = Left Hand Slap or Tap
    X = Ghost Note
    Up/Down arrow = Strum
