  • Hi and welcome to my new lesson. This lesson is designed to look at one particular way of approaching a guitar solo over a thrash style track.

This approach mainly makes use of fast 16th notes in the minor pentatonic and natural minor scale, which is an approach favoured by Megadeth's Dave Mustaine and Metallica's Kirk Hammett.

Whilst it may seem simple in terms of structure and theory, it takes precision and excellent timing to be able to make these kind of licks work well. Not to mention a truck load of stamina!

    So, this lesson will improve:

    -Alternate picking
    -Bending
    -Right / left hand stamina
    -Thrash solo tactics
    -Credibility with 'troo metal' geeks
-Ability to wear skinny jeans and huge trainers

The main point I want to emphasise in this lesson is that this approach is an example of using strict note values and sticking to the tempo that the track dictates. Other players use an approach that is more of a contrast to the intensity of the track but that's a lesson for another time......
