  • In today's lesson we'll continue exploring the possibilities offered in the Mixolydian mode. Let's start by examining the scale's formula which will help us see the chord it might work with: Root-2-3-4-5-6-b7

Taking the Root, 3rd, 5th and minor 7th of the scale tells us that we can use the Mixolydian mode over a Dominant 7th type of chord. To keep things interesting, today's backing track will alternate between a D7 and a C7 chord. We'll use the appropriate Mixo scale over each chord.

In order to make this technically appealing, we'll use a mix of 3 notes per string scale positions with Major pentatonic positions. Make sure every note sounds as clean as possible and keep a strong tempo!

    Practice well!
