Hi GMC, welcome to another blues lesson from me. This lesson will be featured during my first instructor week here at GMC, and this week it's all about the blues! :)
In this lesson we will cover the solo in style of "The 3 Kings of the blues". These are: BB King, Albert King, and Freddy King. These guys all played Gibson guitars, and had that piercing distinct humbucker tone. They were often referred as "mid-generation" or "younger generation" of bluesmen and were all blues masters with licks that influenced many guitarist in the world.
The goal in this (fairly easy) lesson is to increase our ability to say a lot with a limited amount of notes. Focus is on phrasing, vibrato, bends, dynamics, and other important components of the blues solo. Make sure you get every bend and vibrato nice and tight, and this will mean a lot in the end, and in the long run as well.
This lesson involves:
- Blues licks in the style of: BB King, Albert King and Freddy King
- dynamics
- note choice
- mixing major and minor pentatonic scales
- bending & vibrato
Have fun with the blues! :)
