Dorian Mode Singing Lesson

Hello GMC! Today we have a Dorian mode lesson to continue with the connection between your voice and your guitar. It's important to know the sound of this scale because it will gives you new tools for your compositions. The Dorian mode is very used in jazz, and also in some rock and pop music making it sound a bit "jazzy" so it would be awesome if you incorporate this mode to your own songs. No matter if you play rock, pop or metal, you will find very original stuff if you used it.

The Dorian mode is a minor scale with the 6th grade augmented which means that the 6th grade is major. This note gives the sound quality to the mode. If you want to know more about this mode in the guitar check the Andrew’s Theory Lessons about modes.

In this lesson I recorded a singing improvisation using this mode to make you know how it sounds and then we'll sing the scale. Finally we’ll use a guitar pattern to practice the scale with your voice and to make it more difficult. Try to use your own guitar patterns to practice the connection between voice and guitar.

Remember what we said in the previous lessons about creating melodies with your voice. This lesson is not important only for singing aspirants, it's helpful for every one that would like to compose or create a melody, a song or a solo.
