  • Alter Bridge is an American alternative metal band formed in 2004 by former Creed members Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips, and Brian Marshall.

Alter Bridge Style - 12/8 at 120 bpm dottes quarter notes
    ---------------------------------------------------------

Most of their songs as long as this style and as Creed Songs too are structured and based on three main elements:

    1) Moody Opening Arpeggios

    2) Firing Riff during verse

    3) Strong fat power chords during Chorus

Even if Tremonti is a great melodic soloist, most of the time only small section of the song are left to solos (as in many other same genre bands) and is not really a main element.

    Theory Focus
    ------------

In musical notation, 12/8 is a specific time signature consisting of four dotted crotchets (quarter notes), in a bar. This usually comprises 4 groups of 3 quavers (eighth notes), giving the overall feel of common 4/4 time as the basic pulse, but having 4 sets of triplets in a bar rather than the usual 4 crotchets.

    Techniques Focus
    ----------------

The song is quite fast and rhythmically complex, isolate difficult sections and practice them slowly.

    Recommended Listening
    ----------------------

    Creed and well...Alter Bridge.

    Pro Tips
    --------

Most of the time Tremonti plays with guitars tuned a whole step down.
