  • Hi Folks!

Here we are with a some Jazz licks. This first video is a short improvisation and the following videos are a series of licks for you to absorb. Actually the licks were improvised too - I just transcribed them later.

Please be sure to study and learn the related scale shapes for each chord change. My choices are E Locrian natural 2 (mode 6 of G melodic minor) over the Emin9b5. A super locrian (mode 7 of Bb melodic minor) over the A7#5#9. D dorian (mode 2 of C major) over the Dm9, and G lydian b7 (mode 4 of D melodic minor) over the G13.

The chord progression is essentially a ii V i going to IV at the end. Here is is:

    Em9b5 /// A7#5#9 /// Dm9 /// G13 ///

These are not the only choices but this is what I stick to in this particular improvisation. The idea is that you get used to changing the scales as the chords change. This is a very important thing to grasp in jazz and fusion.

N.B. Slow illustrations start from video part 6

    Enjoy!
    Nick
