has been great lessons helped alot thanks JoseLuis
cheers mate, glad it was useful
thanks Ivan!! this exercises are really helping me to improve.
I wish i had recorded myself playing before this lessons and then after finishing them...
Cheers Ivan!!
Thanks for your kind words my friend!
I would like to point out that you are spot on with your observations! The more you practice the easier it will get. If you can already play it @120bpm with some issues, that means you are very close in achieving a nice speed. Just keep it precise - this is the key. Keep rockin man, and let me know if you need anything at all, I'll be glad to help! Cheers
Hi Ivan, thanks for the optimism!
I had a go at this yesterday trying to follow you playing the main video, and failed miserably!
That run starting on the 8th fret of the B string is a killer, and you make it look so easy! I think it's because the run starts straight in at full speed that's tripping me up. I'll just have to keep practicing. (Are you sure this lesson's a level 4, and not a 10! - Just joking!!). I guess it's because the technique I need to play this run at speed, is not something I've done properly in the past. Thing is, I CAN actually play this at 120, but only when I've been playing the same thing for about 2 hours!!
I imagine that once I've conquered it, a lot of the harder lessons won't seem so daunting!!
Anybody else had trouble with this bit, or is it just me?!
Anyway, better carry on - I like a challenge!
Thanks,
Kevin.
It will probably be good! Can't wait to hear it mate. Cheers
Thanks Ivan,
I've been using AP, so I'll stick with it for the time being. Like I said above, it's been a very good AP exercise, as well as a good exercise for phrasing and vibrato!
We'll have to see what the verdict is when I get it into the REC program!!
Thanks,
Kevin
You can do it anyway you like man, as long as it sounds nice and you feel comfortable feel free to use picking, hammer ons, pull offs or any other technique. I would practice both AP and legato on this one, it will give you more covered variations. So do as you please, but please let me know if you need me to help you with this matter further.
cheers
Hi Ivan,
In video 5 are you using alternate picking all the way down the run or are there any pull-offs or hammer-ons? (Can't quite see from the video, but I'm guessing it's picking all the way...!).
The first phrase is quite hard to get up to speed, but I'm getting there. I'm actually finding it a very usual picking exercise that should help loads in lessons to come.
Thanks!
Kevin
First of all, there are a lot of "bluesy" in the "rockey" anyway, so this border is relative and different for everyone if you know what I mean. If you check out Zakk Wylde for example you will see how pentatonic is used in a metal kind of way, completely different from blues. Also from a lesson 6 of these series you can see how to use it in fusion as well. It is all mater of what note sequence and phrasing you choose.
You say the Pentatonic scale is very universal and versatile, and that's right, it can sound rocky or bluesey etc, but what do you do to a pentatonic 'piece' to make it sound rocky rather than bluesey or vise versa? This one's had me for ages - everytime I use the pentatonic, it just sounds bluesey. I'm guessing it's just the phrasing, right? Could you give us some examples where you play the same piece in one style and then in another so we can see it in action?
Thanks!
Kevin
Thanks man, I'm glad you like them
