Hi GMC, welcome to my new in the style of lesson! This time we will play in the style of Eric Clapton.
As you all know, Clapton became famous with Cream, and later on moved to his own solo career. He had some awesome hits (many of them changed music as we know it!) and remained a star over the years, making several comebacks. Although he is accused by many to steal other people songs and licks (primarily from blues standards) and making them their own, he's widely considered one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
Clapton used Stratocaster guitars extensively, although he used also Gibsons back in the cream days too. His smooth bassy humbucker tone was famous as the "women tone" in those days. Later on he used Strats primarily, and single coil sound became his trademark. Fender issues a signature Clapton strat equipped with Gold Lace Sensor Pickups.
Also it is good to note that Clapton is very successful unplugged musician who practically made MTV unplugged sessions famous. His unplugged MTV session is a jewel in his career.
In this lesson we are "chasing" Clapton's single coil strat blues sound. If you listened to album Eric did with B.B.King called "Riding with the King", then you'll know what I'm talking about. This album is all about modern blues sound, rich, lush, and two among top musicians of the worlds are playing side by side a blues medley. If you haven't listened to it, I suggest you do - if you did, then let's play some smooth blues shall we! :)
