Joe Kataldo

Location: Naples, Italy
Been playing guitar since: 1999

I started to play piano at the age of seven, then I moved on to violin, bass and finally, at the age of fourteen, the guitar! Even though I consider myself self-taught, I've studied with the best Italian Musicians/Teachers.

In 2004 I passed an exam in "Teoria & Solfeggio" (which literally means Theory & Reading) at the classical conservatory of music of Salerno, I read treble and bass cleffs well, and if needed I can read the rest of the clefs too. I write music, sing simple melodies - and all of these skills were needed to get the exam.

In 2005 I moved to L.A. where I attended the Musicians Institute of Hollywood (a one month intensive course), studying with Scott Henderson, Ross Bolton, Daniel Gilbert, Matt Baldoni, Jamie Findlay, Al Bonhomme and Keith Wyatt.

Right now I'm studying towards a major in "Jazz" to the "Conservatory of Music of Naples", teaching privately, on-line, and playing in different bands.

Playing and Influences
Really too many to list, but just to name a few, I like any guitar players with modern phrasing, such as Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth, John Petrucci, Steve Vai, Guthrie Gowan and so on. I like a wide range of good music, picking and choosing songs, instead of sticking with one band, from folk to death metal. I am also fascinated by electronic and experimental music.

At GMC
I try to produce exercises and song/study video lessons, full of tips, to make my students Better - Faster, from basic to adavanced, both solo and rhythm guitar, with a constant focus on modern techniques.
