  • Good morning fellas! This time I'm trying to recreate (not copy, because he is uncopiable) the whole Greg Howe style, which includes lots of runs with tappings, arpeggios, legatos, scales and licks all over the axe--a little punishment and entertainment for those who speculate about Mr. Howes's skills. Get ready to rumble!

Pay special attention to string skipping with legatos and tapping without losing the edge of the whole groove. Remember you always have to feel the music! In this exercise there are no chordal sections.

It's a walking bass that changes notes very often. You must keep focused. The main lick is an A minor7 arpeggio with tapping followed by an F# minor7 (minor 6 of A) arpeggio run with some chromatics. After this, you have muted hammer-ons from nowhere (it's a very percussive way to play--check out Nuno Bettencourt's signature licks by the way) and then right to the A major scale to finish with an E minor arpeggio, G major arpeggio, A major arpeggio and B Flat major arpeggio.

I'll upload more stuff related to Greg Howe in the future, I guess. Don't panic and do this exercise at a very slow tempo at first; then when you feel more comfortable and get into it you may increase the speed gradually. This will help you visualize a whole bunch of things.

    C-ya!
