The Mixolydian b6 scale is as its name tells a Mixolydian mode with a minor 6th. Using that scale will give your improvisations a very interesting color if used properly. Its altered 6th might sound out at first, but after playing with it for a while, it will sound very natural and add an extra layer to your musical ideas.
The Mixolydian b6 scale is the 5th mode extracted from the melodic minor scale system. It works over a dominant 7th chord which is a chord made of a root, major 3rd, 5th and minor 7th.
Today we will work in the key of E Mixolydian b6, or A melodic minor. These two keys share the same notes since the Mixo b6 is "extracted" from the melodic minor scale.
Take it slow, ask if you have any questions, and keep it fun!
