Modes, Exercise, Warm-up, Sequences, Picking, Modal, C Ionian, C# Dorian, D Phrygian, D# Lydian, E Mixolydian, F Aeolian, F# Locrian, Alternate picking
In today's lesson we'll study an effective exercise that will focus on alternate picking over the 7 church modes. Start by studying the tab to memorize the sequence used.
We will combine 16th triplet notes (6 notes per beat) with 32nd notes (8 notes per beat). Once you are comfortable with the sequence, practice the whole track at slow tempo.
To make things a bit more complicated, I decided to play each mode separating them by a half step only. Here is the order in which we'll play them:
C Ionian
C# Dorian
D Phrygian
D# Lydian
E Mixolydian
F Aeolian
F# Locrian
Then we'll go back descending that order until we get back to the Ionian mode in C.
Have fun!
